There is family information that we descend through Rev. Joseph Fish who was the pastor in Stonington for approx. 50 years. I have been unable to document this information.
I have traced back to Nathan Fish(1729)md. to Mary Pierce. Rev. Joseph Fish was supposedly his father.
I have found documentation Rev. Joseph md. Rebecca Pabodie in 1732--3 years after Nathan's birth. I'm presuming Rev. Joseph must have had another marriage to Nathan's mother if indeed he is actually my Nathan's father.
If anyone has any information that can shed some light on my brick wall, I would love to hear from you.

Hi Pam,
I might be able to help just a little. I have the book "The History of Stonington" in which there are two Fish families. The one you are concerned with goes as follows:
1. Rev. Joseph Fish, son of Thomas Fish of Duxbury, Mass., b. Jan 28, 1705, was a graduate of Harvard College in 1728. Among his classmates was the Rev. Nathaniel Eells, long his neighbor and friend, as pastor at Stonington, settled in the ministry at almost the same time. These earnest men went on side by side through nearly the whole of their long lives. Mr. Fish was settled in Stonington, now North Stonington, second pastor of the Congregational Church in 1732. He m. Rebecca (No.20), daughter of William Pabodie of Duxbury, Mass., and great-granddaughter of John Alden, of the Mayflower, Dec. 6, 1732. He d. May 26, 1781, in the 76th year of his age, and the 50th of his ministry. His wife d. at Fairfield Oct. 27, 1783, aged 80 years.
CHILDREN:
2. Mary, b. May 19, 1736, m. Rev. John Noyes in 1758 (No. 139), Noyes family; m. 2d, Gen. Gold S. Silliman in 1775; m. 3d, Dr. J. Dickinson in 1804; d. at Wallingford July 2, 1818, aged 83 years.
3. Rebecca, b. Jan 11, 1739, m. Benjamin Douglas, d. and was buried at New Haven Feb. 8, 1766, aged 28 yrs.
4. Joseph, Jr., b. and d. April 13, 1743.
Nathaniel Fish, brother of Rev. Joseph Fish, lived in Stonington, now North Stonington, Conn., m. Mary Pabodie (No. 24), that family, in 1736, sister of his brother's wife.
CHLDREN:
6. Miller, b. Oct. 9, 1737
7. WIlliam, b. April 26, 1738
8. Eliakim, b. Feb. 2, 1741
9. Joseph, b. March 21, 1742
10. Nathaniel, b. Feb. 6, 1744
11. Lydia, b. March 1, 1746
That is all that is written about that family.

My Fish/Fyshe line begins with Thomas and John Fyshe from Great Bowden, England in the mid-1500's to Robert Fish and Alyce Fyshe (cousins?)to Thomas Fish and Mary Ayres and finally to Mary Fish who married Stephen Brayton, of whom I am descended. My notes state that Mary was in Providence, RI. Any connections?

It looks as though after comparing birth dates that the correct Nathaniel would be No. 14. The following comes straight from the book:
Rev. Nathaniel Eells (No. 14) was the third ordained minister of Stonington, a graduate of Harvard College in 1728. After he was ordained in 1733, he pursued his labors with unremitting zeal and success. He lived on Hinckley Hill, and preached in the Center meeting house until 1762, when Mr. Rossiter d. in 1762. Then, upon the request of the east and west parishes in Stonington, he preached at the Centre and Agreement Hill or Road meeting house for a year or two, after which he preached at the Road in the morning, and in the old Academy at Stonington Point, in the afternoon, until the Centre meeting house was taken down and re-erected in the village of Stonington. When the war of the Revolution broke out, and the news of the battle of Lexington set the patriotism of the country on fire, Putnam left his plough and Mr. Eells his pulpit, and rushed to Boston to defend with their lives if need be, the liberties of their country. Mr. Eells was a favorite, especially among the young people, and an able devoted preacher of the Gospel. He m. 1st, Mercy Cushing Oct. 18, 1733; she d., then he m. 2nd wife, Mrs. Mary Darrell, Oct. 10, 1753. He d. June 26, 1786, in the 76th year of his age, and the 53rd year of his ministry.
He had 7 children by his first wife, and 7 by his second. Other than that, there is nothing else about him in the book. Hope that helps a little, anyway.

If I can document that Rev. Joseph Fish is in my direct line then yes we do connect.
I cannot as of yet document that Rev. Joseph Fish, who is in line of Thomas/John Fish, is father of my Nathan Fish.
I've ordered microfilms and hopefully when I finish with them I will find the documentation that I'm looking for.

Just so you know, Wheeler's History has errors in my Fish line and so there may be information missing in the Thomas Fish line too.
I am researching my Fish line. You might want to work with the information at McManus's Fish directory.

I just finished the new book MayFlower and since I am a decsentant it got me back into Genealogy! ha ha.
My Breed line, has so many "mistakes" I wonder if anyone has gone through the Henry Green Breed Eleanor Fish (Laura married James Longstreet +not Gen Longstreet a cousin+ my line is there daughter Ellen Elizabeth longstreet Fulmer who joined DAR in about 1900). She made alot of mistakes too, based at that time more on oral history and our family bible.
Mistakes like spouse dies then has 12 children! ha ha.
Even as I was going to the LDS site for more on Eleanor Fish, i see these same kind of errors. I get tired of poor documentation (does that make me hard to get along with? grin....)
The dialog here on Fish, Rev. does this line produce several Nathans,. married to Abigail Haven, or Catherine Niles or Cathern Helvin or Phebe? Do you have documentation, or reference so I can find this?
